Who Am I ?
Introducing the Buddhist View
whoami
Public Talk
Friday 14th of November
7:30 - 9.00 pm
It’s a question that has fascinated thinkers and scientists for centuries—and one that most of us find ourselves asking at some point in life. This sense of “self” seems to be with us all the time, at the heart of our joys and struggles, and yet it is hard to find a clear answer as to what it is.
Buddhism teaches that understanding the self clearly is an important step toward lasting happiness.
Why? Because much of our stress and unhappiness comes from mistaken ways of relating to ourselves.
In this public talk, Gen Kelsang Ananda (with 30 years of experience) will explore how the way we see ourselves is shaped by the thoughts we hold. In particular he will teach on the 'view of the transitory collection'.
“Our sense that we are an island, an independent, self-sufficient individual, bears no relation to reality. It is closer to the truth to picture ourself as a cell in the vast body of life, distinct yet intimately bound up with all living beings.”
- How To Transform Your Life, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
This public talk is an introduction to the Day Retreat given the next day, where Gen Ananda will show us how to identify, understand and dissolve the Self that we normally see.
